SUSTAINABLE LAUNDRY CARE

CARE |
A compact care system for the laundry washing machines
| Client: ASKO
| Timeframe: 5 weeks
| Process: Shape study, 3D model, UI design

Challenge
We where asked from ASKO to come up with a laundry solution in 2025 for the target group of woman in 60+ years. I narrowed down the large target group and focused on woman living in apartments, often these woman have lived in a bigger house. The woman complain on the lack of space and the lack of ergonomic solution and the aesthetics looks of the washing machine. They were also aware of the environment and asked for information about the consumption of water.
Result
The winning concept is called Compact Care and is a compact washing machine with less depth in the drum so that it takes less space outwards in the room and uses less of G-force for centrifugation and with a simple ergonomic problems like folding your clothes and adjustable legs for making it easer to load and unload the machine. The Compact Care solution is also runed with a water filtering system from NASA's Johnson Space Center, saving water and power by using a nanotube technique.
[ How it works]

“The washing machine takes less space in the depth in the room. The drum can spin at lower speeds and sufficient G-force is still achieved.”
A. Wider drum allows better spin-out effect and uses less power.
B. Water filtering system with acoustics rather than pressure to drive water through small-diameter carbon nanotubes. This allows to use less power.
C. Adjustable high to the room and individual.

“Moving fairly quickly from the 2D sketches to build up an 3D environment to get the right measurements, was important. To create a sense of the space. ”

[ UX explorations]
“UX - there are three main levels to interact with: First level, displayed and active. Each level makes it easy to make a seamless choice. ”

You can fold laundry on the table attached to the adjustable shelf. When you are done you can hide the table by folding and dragging the shelf into the backpart of the washing machine.
